We are delighted to announce that Juan R. García (’95), has been promoted to Professor of Art as Applied to Medicine!

Juan has been a valued and dedicated member of our department since he joined as a full-time Instructor in 1997. He also holds secondary appointments in the departments of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Juan has an impressive, sustained record of outstanding clinical care and innovative developments in the field of clinical anaplastology. Using his extraordinary artistic talent and clinical expertise, he creates custom facial and ocular prostheses for patients, helping them reintegrate into society and achieve psychological recovery following debilitating cancer, facial surgery, trauma, or due to congenital differences. He was promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor in 2001 and to Associate Professor in 2013.

Juan has been instrumental in the development of international standards in the field of clinical anaplastology.  Here at Johns Hopkins University, he established a novel graduate program in clinical anaplastology – the only specialized master’s program of its kind in the world.  In addition, he has been influential in the School of Medicine’s efforts in 3D printing and visualization for clinical applications. He is truly deserving of this academic promotion.

We are very fortunate to have Juan on faculty in the Department of Art as Applied to where he can continue to collaborate in research with colleagues and provide clinical support for patients at Hopkins.

Please join us in congratulating him on this well-deserved achievement!
