Ally Abel, Class of 2026, received the Ranice W. Crosby Award for Excellence in Didactic Medical Illustration. Her award-winning illustration is titled Ligation and Transposition of an Aberrant Right Subclavian Artery. Ally is the inaugural recipient of this newly established, annual student award administered by the Vesalius Trust. Second year students in the accredited graduate programs in medical illustration are eligible to apply. The award recognizes exceptional educational clarity in medical illustration. The winning illustration is selected for the demonstration of a creative, well-executed solution to a complex visual biocommunication challenge. This award celebrates the core mission of medical illustration: to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
This award was established in honor of Raince Crosby, founding member of the AMI and longtime director of the Department of Art as Applied to Medicine.
