A leader in his field, David is past Chair of the Board of Governors of the Association of Medical Illustrators (AMI). He is currently the Chair of the Council on Graduate Education. A steering committee comprised of the directors of all five medical illustration graduate programs in North America. He was inducted as a Fellow of the AMI in 2001. He has served two terms on the Board of Trustees of the Vesalius Trust Foundation. His artwork has been featured in over 150 books and publications and is on permanent exhibit at institutions such as the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry, the Science Museum of Virginia, and the Cincinnati Zoo.

David has received numerous accolades for his work from the AMI, including the Orville Parks Best of Show, the Muriel McLatchie Miller Fine Art Award, and multiple Awards of Excellence and Certificates of Merit for his medical illustrations.

In 2006, David was selected as a Fulbright Scholar to Chile, where he relocated with his family for several months to help establish South America’s first educational program in Medical and Scientific Illustration. In 2011, he conducted a two-week lecture and workshop series in Sendai City and Nagoya, Japan.

In addition to his medical and biological illustration, David is an accomplished portrait artist. His highly detailed portraits are in public and private collections, including the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the Johns Hopkins University.
