We are delighted to announce that Jennifer E. Fairman, CMI, FAMI (’99), has been promoted from Associate Professor to Professor of Art as Applied to Medicine!

She has been a dedicated member of our department since 2006, when she joined as a full-time Instructor. She was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2007 and advanced to the position of Associate Professor in 2017. In 2019, she gained the additional role of Assistant Director of Production and, as of 2025, is now the Director of Production. She is also currently serving as President of the Association Medical Illustrators.

Jeni’s pioneering utilization and instruction of digital media to convey the intricate realms of science and medicine has garnered global acclaim in the field of medical illustration and beyond. Renowned as a luminary in advancing digital methodologies for illustration, 2D animation, 3D molecular visualization, web development, and interactive design, she is at the forefront of innovation in science communication.

With over 3 decades of professional experience in biomedical illustration, her commitment to excellence and quality is evident in her her visual work. As a faculty member, she employs a multi-disciplinary approach, leveraging cutting-edge digital tools to keep our graduate program curriculum at the forefront of technology, instilling digital best practices with outstanding results. Jeni’s students graduate as adept professionals, equipped to address their clients’ and collaborators’ needs with professionalism and expertise.

Jeni’s illustrious career is marked by high-impact and groundbreaking achievements in our field as a medical illustrator and educator.  Her mastery extends across diverse domains such as public health, patient education, clinical, surgical, and basic science education, videos, journal figures, graphical abstracts, and editorial covers.

Jeni is richly deserving of this recognition based on her international reputation as an outstanding leader, educator, and innovator in our field.  We are so fortunate to have Jeni as a faculty member and colleague in our department.
