Students Visit the Welch Library Rare Book Room

Second years students in the Medical Illustration program enjoyed a guided tour of the rare book collection in the Institute of the History of Medicine.  Michael Seminara, curator of the Historical Collection, focused on anatomical atlases as he showed us some of the highlights of the collection.  He spoke about the medical, social, and printing contexts of the atlases and encouraged students to explore the works he brought out for us to view.  Students also got to see the two John Singer Sargent portraits in the West Reading Room of the Welch Medical Library.  It was a fun field trip …  a mere walk across the street from our department!
