
Lydia Gregg, Associate Professor
Beginning July 1st, 2019 Lydia Gregg, MA, CMI, FAMI, will join the Department of Art as Applied to Medicine full-time with a primary appointment. Lydia is joining the department as the search process for an additional new faculty member continues.
Lydia has been a faculty member in the in the Department of Radiology and Radiological Science for the past 12 years and will maintain an appointment within the Division of Interventional Neuroradiology. She is currently an Associate Professor with a joint appointment in the Department of Art as Applied to Medicine. As part of her teaching activities she has designed and now directs the course, Neuroanatomy for the Medical Illustrator. She also serves as curriculum designer for the course, Molecular and Cellular Visualization, teaches techniques for visualizing radiological data, and serves as a Master’s Thesis Advisor.
As a medical illustrator, 3D modeler, and animator, Lydia specializes in depicting neurovascular and spine conditions for publications, presentations, and patient communication materials. Lydia’s areas of interest in research include cerebrovascular anatomy and embryology, as well as the efficacy of visual communication materials. Examples of her work are featured below.
Lydia will assume a new role as Director of Operations in the Department of Art as Applied to Medicine. In this role she will focus on implementation of strategic goals and support the Department Director, Professor Corinne Sandone.
Lydia has received numerous awards and honors including the Inez Demonet Scholarship, the Frank H. Netter MD Memorial Scholarship in Medical Art, a Johns Hopkins Catalyst Grant, National Health Information awards, and multiple salon awards from the Association of Medical Illustrators (AMI) as well as other organizations. Lydia was inducted as a Fellow of the AMI in 2013. She is a recognized leader in medical illustration having designed and chaired the AMI Online Learning Committee and served as an Editor of the AMI quarterly, Trustee of the Vesalius Trust, Chair of the Graphic Medicine Conference, and Chair of the Board of Governors of the AMI.
