On Monday October 9th, 2023, the Clinical Anaplastology Program faculty, staff, and students took a trip to the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC. What makes this trip so special? It was the first fieldtrip of the Clinical Ananaplastology Masters Program. It’s a historical moment for the Department of Art as Applied to Medicine.

After an hour on the road and lots of sight seeing, we were all parched and ready for something hot. We stopped for coffee and snacks. We caught Jess and Cherise all smiles while waiting. Then, once we made it to the museum, we took an opportunity for photos in front of a fountain. (Far left Carolyn McCloud, Andrew Etheridge, Jess Liddicoat, Cherise Masuda, Juan Garcia)

The CA faculty, staff, and students went to see an exhibit featuring work of the nineteenth century sculptor Antonio Canova. The exhibit included life size portrait sculptures as well as sculpted clay studies. This allowed students time to appreciate a range of sculptural techniques from plaster casting to modeling figures in clay.

No opportunity was missed to learn a little more about the sculptor and his techniques. In the above photos, Juan Garcia is taking a moment to explain one of the techniques prevalent in the sculptor’s work. Above is a photo of a plaster model. Cherise and Jess were able to admire some of the casts and sculpted work.

See you on the next adventure!
