May 2012: This year, the recipient of The Ranice W. Crosby Distinguished Achievement Award, for scholarly contributions to the advancement of art as applied to the medical sciences, is Dr. Miguel A. Schön, a member of the faculty of the School of Medicine. Over the past fourteen years, Dr. Schön has enriched the curriculum of the graduate program in Medical and Biological Illustration. His dedication to working with our students in Anatomical Sketching, Illustrating Anatomy, and as the “Go-To” person for anatomical questions during all illustration classes, has enabled our graduate program to grow academically into the best program of its kind. In addition, his understanding of our field of study and willingness to share his knowledge and experience has been a tremendous asset to both the students and faculty of Art as Applied to Medicine. We have gained so much from his affiliation with our program through his gift of time, expertise, and guidance. Please join me and the Department of Art as Applied to Medicine in honoring him with this award for his role as the Medical Art “Anatomist in Residence.”
