Medical illustration graduate students in the Class of 2024 visited Washington DC in January for a 3-part trip.  We checked out Hopkins’ new Bloomberg Center at 555 Pennsylvania Avenue, grabbing a cup of coffee in the recently renovated building.  On to the National Portrait Gallery for lunch and viewing of the exhibits.  The highlight was our visit to National Geographic, with a private conversation and tour with Fernando Baptista, the superb senior artist at NatGeo!  He discussed his workflow, showed us his iterative process including spectacular handcrafted 3D models, and gave students individual feedback on their portfolios.  A fantastic trip!
