The recipient of the Ranice W. Crosby Distinguished Achievement Award, for scholarly contributions to the advancement of art as applied to the medical sciences, is Gary Lees, MS, CMI, FAMI, Professor and former Director of the Department of Art as Applied to Medicine. He received this award at the 2019 Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Commencement which was held May 22, 2019.

Gary served as the director of the graduate program in Medical and Biological Illustration for 30 years, from 1983 to 2013.  Gary has provided steadfast leadership in his vision for the training of the professional medical illustrator.   His contributions are succinctly described in the inscription on the medal:  “Transformative Leader and Devoted Educator.”
