Admissions to the MBI program begins with the Art Portfolio and the Applicant Profile.

Art Portfolio

The faculty invite applicants to share examples of their art from the six portfolio categories: General Drawing, Figure Drawing, Color Media, Graphic Design, Digital Media, and Sketchbook Pages. Up to 20 pieces of art may be shared. For a discussion on what to include and what to avoid, take a look at this blog post.

We use a SlideRoom website to share the portfolio art with the faculty on our Admissions Committee. The website is user-friendly, and the excellent support staff at SlideRoom are very helpful with technical questions about their site, types and size of files, etc.

Our program upload period runs from November 1st to January 10th. All portfolios should be submitted by January 10th to be considered by the faculty for matriculation in early August of the same year. The website allows applicants to make progress, save, and return later to edit and add to their portfolios and applicant profiles.

Applicant Profile

Included with the art submission, there is a short “Applicant Profile.” This questionnaire introduces candidates to the admissions faculty by sharing their academic history, how they’ve completed the science prerequisites, and about any art training they’ve had.

There is also an opportunity to upload one document file. This might include a resume, unofficial transcripts, and/or other relevant documents. A .pdf file is the best format for documents. While optional, this can add information that otherwise might be missing (course load/semester, working and attending class at same time, courses not listed in the Profile, etc.).
