Kari is from Baltimore, Maryland. She earned a BFA in drawing from the Maryland Institute College of Art. During her time there, she discovered the field of medical illustration and began taking courses in the biological sciences. After completing her undergraduate degree, Kari continued her science coursework while working at JHU in vaccine research.
